Lesson 4 Article 2

Stop Selling. Start Inviting.

Your audience has heard enough sales messages. A Community Coordinator can begin a different conversation by inviting people to participate in something useful, local, and connected.

Your Audience Does Not Need Another Sales Pitch

Many creators and influencers have spent years learning how to turn attention into sales. Brand partnerships, affiliate links, sponsored products, discount codes, launches, and promotions all depend on asking an audience to take some form of buying action.

There is nothing inherently wrong with recommending a useful product or service. The problem begins when nearly every interaction starts leading toward the same destination: buy something.

Eventually followers can begin anticipating the pitch before it arrives.

If every conversation eventually becomes a transaction, the relationship can begin to feel transactional.

Promotion Fatigue Changes The Relationship

Followers originally connected because they enjoyed the content, personality, knowledge, entertainment, perspective, or sense of connection. But repeated selling can slowly change that relationship.

The follower begins asking a different question: "What are they trying to sell me today?"

For a creator who worked hard to build trust, that is dangerous. The answer is not necessarily to stop creating, communicating, recommending, or earning income. The answer is to create more reasons for the relationship to exist.

Change The Conversation

The Promotion Conversation

The Participation Conversation

Come discover this with me.

Here is a business worth knowing about.

Here is an event happening in our community.

Here is a reward you can earn.

Here is an opportunity to participate.

That is a very different relationship. Instead of repeatedly asking followers to give something, the Coordinator begins bringing useful opportunities into the relationship.

The Invitation Can Begin For Free

One of the most important parts of the Webigo model is that participation does not have to begin with a purchase or paid membership.

Consumers can begin participating for free. Businesses and service providers can begin participating for free. That changes how a Coordinator can introduce Webigo.

The invitation is not:
"I have another program I want to sell you."

The invitation becomes:
"I'm building a participating community and I'd like you to be part of it. You can start for free."

That removes much of the pressure from the first conversation. People can experience the community, discover opportunities, participate, and understand the value before deciding whether anything more is appropriate for them.

Invitation Is Not Passive

"Stop selling" does not mean sit back and hope people participate. Coordinators still communicate, create content, make introductions, explain opportunities, invite businesses, promote events, introduce rewards, encourage referrals, and help people understand how to participate.

The difference is the purpose behind the communication.

A Coordinator is not trying to pressure people into a transaction. A Coordinator is giving people reasons to become involved.

Give People Something Worth Participating In

An invitation only works when there is something useful on the other side of it.

That is why the Webigo community cannot simply become another social feed. The goal is not to move followers from one place where they scroll to another place where they scroll.

The digital platform should help people discover opportunities that lead to real participation.

  • Discover a business or service provider
  • Visit and participate with a business
  • Earn or use a reward
  • Attend a community event
  • Explore a Discovery Path
  • Support a school, nonprofit, charity, or cause
  • Refer a business or another participant
  • Discover an independent or home-based seller
  • Build new relationships inside the community

The phone helps someone discover the opportunity. The participation happens beyond the screen.

Protect The Trust You Already Earned

Your existing followers are not inventory. They are people who chose to give you some portion of their attention and trust.

That trust becomes more valuable when followers discover that staying connected to you can lead to useful experiences rather than an endless stream of promotions.

Over time, your communication can become something people look forward to because it may introduce a new business, a worthwhile event, a reward, an organization, a community story, or another opportunity to participate.

You Are Not Abandoning Your Ability To Create Attention

Creators should continue using the skills that helped them build an audience. Content creation, storytelling, communication, video, social media, and audience growth remain valuable.

Webigo simply gives those skills another destination.

You learned how to get people's attention. Now you can learn how to turn some of that attention into meaningful participation.

Participation Can Create Better Content Too

Once community activity begins, the Coordinator has more useful things to talk about.

Instead of searching every day for another product to promote, the community itself begins producing stories: new businesses, member experiences, events, rewards, Discovery Paths, causes, successful referrals, community accomplishments, and opportunities.

That content can attract more followers. Those followers can become participants. Those participants can create more relationships and activity. The community begins feeding the content instead of the content existing only to feed another sale.

The New Question

Before posting something, a creator may have traditionally asked: "How can I monetize this attention?"

A Community Coordinator can begin adding another question: "How can this create useful participation?"

That does not eliminate income. It changes the path toward creating it by putting relationships, participation, and continuing value first.

Coordinator takeaway: Stop treating every follower interaction as an opportunity to sell something. Invite people into useful participation. Give them reasons to stay connected, become involved, and experience value. Stronger relationships can create a stronger community, and a stronger community can create more opportunities for everyone involved.
